A few months back I got these two products from a German brand Alpecin, hopefully to help me grow my hair faster. I was actually curious using products targeted to men, because I know most of the products that help speed up the hair growth are for them. Thinning hair and slow hair growth are problems that most men can’t escaped from. So I figured using the products that are meant for men, might actually show some results.
I don’t have any typical reasons why I chose Alpecin, just that they happened to be on the site while I was online shopping. I did a quick research about them and thought they were worth a try. I bought Alpecin Liquid and Caffeine Shampoo from Ebay, since the price was almost one third of what they were sold in other online stores.
Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo and Liquid contains caffeine as active ingredient. Caffeine for hair is known for stimulating the scalp by increasing blood flow, promotes hair growth and also proven to stop hair loss.
Let me go straight to the point: They work. Nothing amazing with my results, but they are visible. Because Alpecin Liquid only lasted for me over a month and I still have almost half the bottle left with Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo. I think they’ll work better if I keep using them for longer period. I been using them consistently for over a month, then I slowed down the whole progress.
The reason was, these last few weeks I been washing my hair less. I don’t want my hair to suffer from drying out again. I’m actually planning to eventually shampooing my hair only once a week, if I can only hold out that long. I already got my hair cut, so I think it would be easier to not wash them so often now that they are shorter.
Out of two products, my vote go to the Caffeine Shampoo. Kind of unfair, because I was using them both together, so the results that I got a likely from both. But from my research before, lots of people favored the shampoo too. There were more people getting results with it than with the Alpecin Liquid. The Liquid can be overly drying to the scalp, especially to sensitive one. It can cause dandruff or irritation, because it’s contains a lot of alcohol.
With the Alpecin Caffeine Shampoo, I like the practical of it because I only needed to use it during shower, no extra step. Followed by the direction, I massaged the shampoo on to my scalp and have to leave it there for two minutes. But I always left it on my scalp more than ten minutes and kept massaging in between. Both products have really strong odors! The odor got me overwhelmed a few times, but I’m not sensitive to smells so it wasn’t an issue for me.
The two products smell like strong menthol mixed with alcohol. Terrible, to me anyway. But guys must love these kind of smells. Its the smell of hair growth! The shampoo was alright for my opinion, I didn’t feel like my hair was cleaner than usual. But the scalp felt a little refreshed after a strong menthol doze.
The Alpecin Liquid was liquidy. In the direction says that only to use it once a day for massaging your scalp but I actually used it twice a day. Because I can. I was too greedy and anxious to see some results. If not, I can move on quickly to another product – I don’t have time to waste when it comes to growing my hair. It takes ages already! Luckily for me, Alpecin liquid didn’t irritate my scalp. When I put it on my scalp there was this cooling and tingling sensation, it absorbed into my scalp quickly too and didn’t leave any residue. I wouldn’t say that it made my scalp oilier faster than usual that I needed to wash my hair more often. But I used it a lot each time and was using it twice a day, so my scalp looked dirtier on the second day, not oily.
Would I continue to use this? Yes, I’ll finish them up. But I probably won’t repurchase them any time soon, because I want to try other products since there are so many options out there. While settle for a prince, when you can get the king.

OOoh, interesting German brand. The packaging is a bit of turn off for me though
Yeah they look bulky because they are designed for men, not for us tho
I couldn’t read this due to the floating hearts, very distracting. Please don’t use these on future blogs!
Hi Marian,
So sorry about this
I thought they would look nice for the upcoming Valentine’s Day.. But if it’s this distracting, I’ll turn it off then! Thanks for the feedback!

Hello. I have been using two of the products for around two months. Hair doesn’t come out every time I comb my hands through it any more (a habit I have while working at my desk).
I am male though
It is just a little more expensive than other shampoos in South Africa but I rate totally worth it! What other products are you thinking of trying?
Hey Korn,
you definitely should look into MSM powder. I’ve written about it in the past, check it out here http://forluminousskin.com/beauty-benefits-msm-skin/ . Of all the hair growth products that I’ve tried, MSM is the best one yet and I’m sticking with it. MSM is a supplement, so you can still combine it with other topical hair treatment products to enhance the growth
Good luck!
